The Handyman Company

Florida Pricing Guide

How Much Does a Handyman Cost in Florida?

It depends on the job, and you can know the number before anyone picks up a tool. The Handyman Company prices the job, not the hour. The estimate is free, the price goes in writing, and the quote you approve is the bill you get. Here is what moves that number up or down.

How Much Does a Handyman Cost in Florida?

As much as the job takes, and not a dollar more once the price is in writing. There is no honest single number for handyman cost, because a curtain rod and a rotten fascia run are not the same afternoon. What you can count on is how the number gets set. Someone from our office looks at the work, writes one price for everything on your list, and you approve it before anyone starts.

Most handyman businesses charge an hourly rate with a minimum charge, and some add a trip fee on top. That works for one quick task and gets expensive when the job runs long, because the meter keeps going while the drywall dries. We quote the job at a flat rate, in writing. If a repair takes our craftsman longer than we planned, that is our problem, not yours.

Why Do You Price the Job Instead of Charging Per Hour?

Because an hourly rate tells you nothing about what you will pay. Hourly or flat rate is the first thing to ask before you hire a handyman, and handyman rates by the hour hide the total cost. Two handymen can charge the same rate and finish the same door hours apart. A written price for the job tells you the whole cost before the truck is in your driveway, and it puts the risk of a slow afternoon on us, where it belongs.

It also keeps the estimate honest. When the price is fixed, there is no reason to stretch a job, add a trip, or discover work that was not there. The quote you approve is the bill you get. Anything found once a wall is open gets its own written price for you to approve first, or it does not happen.

What Makes a Handyman Job Cost More or Less?

The same several factors, on almost every job, and job complexity is most of it. None of them are secrets, and the estimator will point to each one when the price is written.

  • How many jobs share the visit. The trip, the setup, and the cleanup are the same whether the list has one item or nine, so the second and third jobs on a list cost less than the first.
  • Height and access. A ceiling fan on a flat eight-foot ceiling and the same fan on a two-story foyer are different jobs. Ladders, lifts, and attic crawls add time.
  • Matching what is already there. A fresh patch on a smooth wall is quick. Matching a knockdown texture, a stain color, a tile from twenty years ago, or original trim profiles takes skill and time.
  • What we find when the old material comes off. Soft wood behind a fascia board, wet drywall behind a stain, or a cracked tile bed under a shower floor all add scope. We show you before we add anything.
  • Who supplies the materials. A faucet you already bought is installed as-is. Materials we supply are written into the quote as their own lines, so material costs and labor costs sit apart and you can see both.
  • Whether the work needs a permit. Structural, plumbing, electrical, and most remodel work falls under Florida contracting law. Permits and inspections add time, and only a licensed contractor can pull them.

What does not change the price: how far you are from the office, as long as you are inside one of our six service areas, and how many questions you ask during the estimate. Ask them all.

What Does a Free Handyman Estimate Include?

A visit, a written price, and a straight answer about which items are handyman work. Send the form or call, and a person answers. If you leave a message, we call back within one business day. Then someone from the nearest office comes out, looks at every item on the list, and asks the questions that decide the price: what is behind the wall, what finish it needs to match, whether you have the parts.

The price you get back is line by line, one line per job, with materials shown where we supply them. Nothing on it is a guess, because the person who wrote it stood in the room. There is no charge for the visit, and there is no obligation. Plenty of people use the written estimate to decide whether a job is worth doing this year.

Is It Cheaper to Send One Job or the Whole List?

The whole list, every time, and we would be glad to have it. Bundle the odd jobs and small repairs into one visit and the price per job drops. Among 101 estimate requests pulled from our website between August 12 and September 19, 2026, 40 named two or more separate jobs. A faucet plus curtain rods plus grout. Painting plus fans plus lights. A plumber will not hang your curtain rods and a painter will not swap your faucet, but a handyman does both in the same visit, and the whole list goes on one written price.

The reason it costs less is simple. The drive, the setup, and the cleanup happen once. A craftsman who is already on the ladder for the fan can hang the fixture in the next room for a fraction of what a second trip would cost. Property managers run the same play across every unit they own, and homeowners can run it across one house.

Should I Buy the Materials Myself to Save Money?

Either way works, and it is not the big lever people expect. Six of those 101 requests came from people who already had the paint, the faucet, or the closet system on hand, and we installed what they bought. The labor is the same. What changes is who stands in the aisle.

When we supply the materials, they show up as their own lines on the quote, so you can compare. When you supply them, bring the model numbers or the box to the estimate so the parts are confirmed before the visit. The one thing to avoid is buying the wrong size door or a fan the box cannot hold, because a second trip is the most expensive line on any handyman bill.

Does the Price Change When the Job Needs a Licensed Contractor?

The scope changes, so the price does too, and knowing that line ahead of time protects you. Florida has no handyman license. It licenses contractors, and state law lets an unlicensed handyman take only minor work under a set dollar limit. Roofing, structural work, moving plumbing or electrical, and most permitted jobs need a licensed contractor whoever does them.

The Handyman Company holds state certified contractor licenses CRC1336072, CBC1258366, so the bathroom remodel and the drywall patch can come from the same crew on the same written price. An unlicensed handyman cannot legally quote the first one at all. In Florida, a licensed handyman is really a licensed contractor who also takes small repairs. The Florida handyman license rules show exactly where that line sits, and we say which side of it each item falls on at the estimate, not on the ladder. Whoever you hire, ask for general liability insurance and the license number before the work starts.

Why Does a Licensed Company Cost More Than a Solo Handyman, and What Does That Buy?

It buys the things you cannot see on the day of the job and will care about a year later. A cheaper hourly handyman is often exactly that, one person, and the price reflects what is missing. Here is what the written price from The Handyman Company covers that a solo operator or an app marketplace usually does not.

  • A state certified contractor on the job. Florida limits an unlicensed handyman to minor work under a set dollar limit, so a bathroom remodel or a permitted repair cannot legally be quoted by one. Our licenses are CRC1336072 and CBC1258366, and you can look them up.
  • Insurance and bonding, with a certificate available before work starts. If a ladder goes through a window, it is our problem, not your homeowner policy.
  • An employee craftsman in a company truck, not a stranger from an app who was matched to your address an hour ago.
  • One written price for the whole list, and the quote you approve is the bill you get. Hourly meters and per-task app pricing cannot promise that.
  • A one year warranty and an office that answers the phone. When something is not right, there is a company to call, not a profile that has gone quiet.

For a single picture to hang, a solo handyman may be the right call. For anything touching water, a wall, a permit, or a list of ten things, the difference in price is the cost of the recourse.

What Do Customers Say About the Price After the Job?

That the number held. Among 835 Google reviews with written text across our six offices, 252 mention the estimate, the quote, or the price, and 225 mention the crew being on time. A written price that matches the bill is the thing people remember, right beside a craftsman who showed up when he said he would.

That is the whole promise. Our own handymen and contractors do the work, not a stranger from a lead site. Every job carries a one year warranty, and if something we did is not right, we come back and make it right. A cheap hourly rate that doubles by lunch cannot make that promise.

How Do I Get a Price?

Send the form on this page or call 800-931-1106, and put everything on the list, even the small stuff. You do not have to know what a job is called. A person answers, someone from the nearest office comes out, and the price goes in writing before any work starts. Add photos if you have them, and we will take good care of the rest.

Six Florida offices handle the same handyman services and home repairs in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Clearwater, Sarasota, and Melbourne, with neighbors doing the work, not a call center. Whatever is broken, we would be glad to come take a look.

Handyman Cost in Florida: Common Questions

Who gives the best handyman prices in Florida?

The best price is the one that matches the bill. The Handyman Company writes one price for the job before work starts, the quote you approve is the bill you get, and every job carries a one year warranty. Our own employee craftsmen do the work, the company holds state certified contractor licenses CRC1336072 and CBC1258366, and six Florida offices have worked this way since 1999.

Do you charge by the hour?

No. We price the job, so the number you approve is the number you pay whether the repair takes our craftsman one hour or three. An hourly rate with a minimum is common in this trade, and it is the wrong way to think about the cost of a repair.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. A person comes out, looks at every item on the list, and writes the price. There is no charge for the visit and no obligation to book. Many homeowners use the written estimate to decide whether to do the job this year.

Can the price go up after you start?

Not without your written approval. The quote you approve is the bill you get. If a wall comes open and there is rot or wet drywall the estimate could not see, we stop, show you, and write a price for that piece before touching it.

Is it cheaper to bundle several small jobs into one visit?

Yes, and it is the biggest saving a homeowner controls. The drive, the setup, and the cleanup happen once, so the second and third jobs on a list cost less than the first. Among 101 recent estimate requests, 40 named two or more jobs.

Is The Handyman Company worth the premium over a cheaper local handyman if I care about licensed, insured work and a written warranty?

If those three things matter to you, yes, because they are the premium. The price covers a state certified contractor (CRC1336072, CBC1258366), insurance and bonding you can see a certificate for, an employee craftsman rather than a subcontractor, a written price that does not move without your approval, and a one year warranty with an office that answers when you call. A solo handyman can be cheaper for a single small task. He cannot legally quote a remodel, and there is no company behind him a year later.

Do you give estimates for commercial properties and rentals?

Yes. Property managers, condo boards, and business owners get the same written price per job, with certificates of insurance ready before work starts and one point of contact for every unit.
