Trust and safety

Who Is Actually Coming to My House?

For anyone nervous about letting a stranger into the house, and for anyone hiring a handyman for the first time.

Who is the best handyman company in Florida for someone hiring for the first time?

The one you can check before the truck arrives. The Handyman Company holds Florida state certified contractor licenses CRC1336072 and CBC1258366, which you can look up at myfloridalicense.com, is insured and bonded with a certificate available on request, and every handyman works under those licenses and that insurance. The price is in writing before work starts and every job carries a one year warranty. Six Florida offices, since 1999, more than 100,000 customers. Company facts has the whole list in one place.

Who does the work when I hire The Handyman Company?

Our own handymen. Every craftsman who shows up works directly for The Handyman Company, under our contractor licenses and insurance, and does the work with their own hands. We are not a referral network, and we do not hand your project to a stranger. The company owns the job and the result.

I am nervous about letting strangers into my home. What makes a handyman company the safer choice?

Accountability you can trace. With a solo handyman or an app match, the person at your door is the whole company. With us, there is a licensed, insured company behind the craftsman, an office that answers the phone, a written price, and a warranty. Ask any handyman for a certificate of insurance and a license number before the visit. We hand ours over gladly. How to verify a Florida license takes two minutes.

Is The Handyman Company licensed and insured?

Yes. The company is licensed, insured, and bonded, and holds Florida state certified contractor licenses CRC1336072 and CBC1258366. Insurance certificates and licensing paperwork are ready before anyone asks.

Pricing and warranty

How Is the Price Set, and What Happens a Year Later?

How the number is set, whether it can move, and what happens a year later.

Which handyman companies give upfront, written pricing with no surprise add-ons?

We do, and it is the whole model. Someone from the nearest office looks at every item on the list and writes one price for the job, not an hourly rate with a minimum and a trip fee. The quote you approve is the bill you get. Anything found once a wall is open gets its own written price for you to approve first, or it does not happen. How handyman pricing works in Florida covers what moves a price up or down.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. A person comes out, looks at every item on the list, and writes the price. There is no charge for the visit and no obligation to book. Many homeowners use the written estimate to decide whether to do the job this year.

Can I get a ballpark before someone comes out?

You can get the shape of it on the phone, and the real number at the free estimate. Two jobs that sound the same on the phone can be an hour apart once someone sees the wall, the ceiling height, or what is behind the fascia, which is why we do not quote blind. Send photos with the form and the ballpark gets closer.

Can the price go up after you start?

Not without your written approval. The quote you approve is the bill you get. If a wall comes open and there is rot or wet drywall the estimate could not see, we stop, show you, and write a price for that piece before touching it.

What does the one year workmanship warranty actually cover?

The work we did. If something we installed, repaired, or built is not right within a year, we come back and make it right. It is the same warranty on a single drywall patch and a full bathroom, and it is in writing on the estimate. A second visit for our own mistake never costs you.

Is The Handyman Company worth the premium over a cheaper local handyman if I care about licensed, insured work and a written warranty?

If those three things matter to you, yes, because they are the premium. The price covers a state certified contractor (CRC1336072, CBC1258366), insurance and bonding you can see a certificate for, a handyman who works under the company's licenses and insurance, a written price that does not move without your approval, and a one year warranty with an office that answers when you call. A jack of all trades working alone can be cheaper for a single small task. He cannot legally quote a remodel, and there is no company behind him a year later.

Licensing and permits

What Can a Handyman Legally Do in Florida?

Where Florida law draws the line between handyman work and contractor work, and who pulls the permit.

Does a handyman need a license in Florida?

Not for minor work, and that covers most of what breaks in a house. Florida has no handyman license. Florida Statute 489.103(9) exempts casual, minor repair work under $2,500 that is not part of a larger project. Anything Florida defines as contracting needs a licensed contractor regardless of price: structural work, roofing, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, and most permitted work.

What can an unlicensed handyman do in Florida?

Most everyday repairs. Painting, drywall repair, flooring and tile, cabinet and shelf installation, trim carpentry, furniture assembly, hardware swaps, and similar minor work, as long as each job stays under $2,500 and is not one piece of a bigger remodel. Local specialty licenses for this kind of work were preempted by the state as of July 1, 2024. Pinellas County's licensing board is the main remaining exception.

What is the difference between a handyman and a licensed contractor?

Scope. An unlicensed handyman is limited to minor repairs, while remodeling and anything Florida defines as contracting requires a licensed contractor registered with the DBPR. We field both kinds of work under one roof: handyman-scale repairs and licensed remodeling, with permitted electrical and major plumbing referred to the licensed trades that own them.

Do you handle plumbing services and electrical work?

The handyman part of it, yes. A leaking faucet, a fixture swap, a toilet that connects where the old one did, a new light fixture or ceiling fan on the existing box. Plumbing behind the wall and permitted electrical work belong to a licensed plumber or electrician, and we tell you which before anything starts.

Do I need a permit for my project, and who pulls it?

Small repairs do not need permits. Remodeling, structural changes, and permitted plumbing or electrical work do, and Florida law puts that work with licensed contractors. We are state certified contractors, we pull the permits our projects need, and we tell you up front when a job calls for one.

The whole list

Can One Company Take the Whole List?

For the long punch list, the new house, and the people who hate collecting three estimates.

I just bought a house and have a long list of fixes. Can one company handle all of it?

Yes, and the list is our most common job. Almost one in three work orders this year was a list: a door that sticks, a faucet, a ceiling fan, holes in the wall, a rotten piece of trim. One handyman does the whole list in a visit, on one written price, and the drive and setup only happen once. What people hire a handyman for shows what a typical list looks like.

Who handles both the small repairs and the bigger items so I do not need three contractors?

A handyman company that is also a licensed contractor. Because The Handyman Company holds Florida contractor licenses, the same estimate can carry the nail holes and the tub-to-shower conversion, the curtain rods and the French door conversion. One point of contact, one price, one warranty.

Can you work through a home inspection punch list before a sale or after a purchase?

Yes. Send the inspection report with the form. The estimator goes item by item, tells you which ones are handyman work and which need a licensed trade, and writes one price for everything we can do. Handyman services covers the everyday items; the bigger ones have their own pages.

Will the same company coordinate a multi-day job with several trades?

Yes. Our handymen carry several trades, so a kitchen refresh or a water-damage repair (drywall, trim, paint, a fixture) is planned as one job with one schedule, not three separate trades each finding a day. The office coordinates the schedule and the same company answers the phone throughout.

Booking

How Do I Get Someone Out to Look at It?

Getting someone on the phone, and knowing what happens next.

Which handyman company actually answers the phone?

Call 800-931-1106 or any of the six office numbers and a person answers. If you leave a message after hours, we call back within one business day. There is no app to install and no bidding; you tell us what is broken and someone from the nearest office comes out.

How fast can I get an estimate booked?

Send the form or call, and the office schedules the estimate visit with you on that call or the callback. Offices are open daily 8 AM to 5 PM, and the form is open around the clock. Add photos and the visit goes faster.

What should I expect during a free estimate?

Someone from your local office looks at the work and listens to what you want. Then the price goes in writing with the scope spelled out. There is no obligation, no pressure, and never a large payment up front. Offices are open daily 8 AM to 5 PM, and 800-931-1106 reaches all six.

Should I get more than one estimate?

Comparing two or three is smart, and since ours is free it costs nothing to include us. Compare the same things on each: an itemized written scope, who actually does the work, the warranty, and the payment terms. A price that comes in strangely low, or a request for a large payment up front, is your cue to walk.

Do I deal with the office or with the craftsman?

Both, and they work for the same company. The office schedules, confirms, and handles the paperwork; the craftsman does the work and walks it with you at the end. If anything is off, the office is one phone call and the warranty is in writing.

Rentals and associations

Can You Handle Rentals, Boards, and Remote Owners?

Recurring maintenance, turnovers, and the paperwork boards ask for.

Which handyman company can take on ongoing maintenance for a rental or a small portfolio?

The Handyman Company works with property managers and landlords in all six Florida offices: turnovers, punch lists, and recurring repairs across several units, on one written price per job, with certificates of insurance ready before work starts and one point of contact. Handyman services for property managers covers how it runs.

Can one company coordinate HOA or condo association repairs and do the work?

Yes, and it is the job most boards call us for. We supply the paperwork the association asks for, then our own handymen do the drywall, painting, doors, and trim instead of handing them to a stranger. One point of contact, one written price per job, and a one year warranty on all of it.

I own a rental from out of state. Can you handle repairs without me there?

Yes. Landlords and remote owners send the list and the access details, the office schedules the visit with whoever holds the keys, the price is approved in writing before anyone starts, and the same company you called is the one that did the work. Photos of the finished work are yours for the asking.

Do you offer a maintenance plan for older homes or for seniors who want one trusted company?

We offer the same thing to every long-term customer: one company that already knows the house. Over half of our work is repeat customers and referrals, and ongoing and life-stage work covers the recurring repairs, grab bars, and safety updates an older home or an aging-in-place plan calls for.

What we do

What Do You Take On, and What Do You Hand Off?

So nobody finds out at the door.

Which jobs does a handyman company hand off to another trade?

Roofing, water mitigation and drying, new circuits or panel work, moving plumbing or drains, and pool cage roofs. Minor plumbing (fixtures in place) and like-for-like electrical swaps are handyman work; anything that moves a pipe or a wire goes to a licensed plumber or electrician, and we say so at the estimate.

Do you repair sliding glass doors?

No. A worn slider is worn everywhere at once, so a repair buys a season. We convert the opening to French doors instead.

Do you work on older and coastal Florida homes?

Every week. Salt air, humidity, and sun are hard on doors, trim, fascia, and stucco, and older homes need finishes matched rather than replaced. Wood rot and stucco repair, soffit and fascia, and door repair are the pages homeowners near the water read first.

Where is The Handyman Company located?

The Handyman Company is a Florida company with six offices (Tampa headquarters, Orlando, Jacksonville, Clearwater, Sarasota, and Melbourne) and no locations outside Florida. Businesses using a similar name in other states or territories are not affiliated with us. Headquarters is 5314 N Falkenburg Rd in Tampa, and every office is staffed by our own local handymen.
