What Are the Most Common Handyman Jobs? A Handyman Services List From Real Work Orders
A list of small repairs, carpentry, drywall, and doors, in that order. Here are 500 work orders pulled at random from our six Florida offices between January 1 and September 17, 2026, sorted by what the customer booked, most common first.
| Kind of work | Work orders | What it usually is |
|---|---|---|
| A handyman list | 147 | Several small repairs in one visit: a faucet, a fan, a door that sticks, a few holes in the wall |
| Carpentry and trim | 106 | Baseboards, crown molding, rotten trim, door frames, built-ins, closet shelving |
| Drywall and ceilings | 56 | Holes, cracks, water-stained ceilings, texture matched and painted |
| Doors | 52 | Entry doors, interior doors, frames, hardware, doors that swelled shut |
| Bathroom repairs and remodels | 30 | Grout, shower doors, vanities, tub surrounds, and full remodels |
| Flooring and tile | 21 | Laminate, LVP, ceramic tile, wall tile, transitions and baseboards |
| Painting | 19 | Rooms, garages, exteriors, and the repairs that go under the paint |
| Minor plumbing | 15 | Faucets, toilets, and fixtures swapped in place |
| Lights, fans, and fixtures | 12 | Ceiling fans, chandeliers, vanity lights, like-for-like swaps |
| Stucco, siding, and exterior | 11 | Cracked stucco, rotten siding, fascia, and the wood behind them |
Window repair, kitchen and room remodels, deck repairs, and screen installation made up most of the rest, and TV mounting, furniture assembly, and gutter cleaning rode along on many of the lists. Nearly two out of three of the 500 were repeat customers, people who had called us before and called again. That says more about the work than anything we could write here.
Is a List of Small Repairs a Handyman Job?
It is the handyman job, and the one we do most. Almost one in three work orders, 147 of 500, was a list: a faucet plus a ceiling fan plus a door that will not latch plus a few nail holes before the painter comes. No single item on it would get a plumber, an electrician, or a carpenter to come out. A handyman does all four in one visit.
The list is also the cheapest way to hire us. The drive, the setup, and the cleanup happen once, and the whole list goes on one written price. Send every item, even the small ones. We are glad to have it, and the second and third jobs on one written handyman price cost less than the first.
Does a Handyman Do Carpentry?
Yes, and in Florida it is the second most common job we book, 106 of 500. Humidity swells wood, sun cooks it, and wind-driven rain finds every gap in the trim. Baseboards, crown molding, door casings, rotten fascia, closet systems and shelving, and built-ins all came through this year.
The difference between handyman carpentry and a cabinet shop is finish and scope. Our craftsmen replace, repair, and match what is already in the house. When trim is rotten at the bottom, the whole run does not have to go. The rotten section comes out, new wood goes in, and the joint disappears under caulk and paint. If a job turns structural, we say so at the estimate, because that work needs a licensed contractor, and the company holds those licenses.

Can a Handyman Fix Drywall and a Stained Ceiling?
Yes, and it is one of the most satisfying repairs on the list, because a wall that looked wrecked reads as new by the end of the day. Drywall and ceilings were 56 of the 500 work orders: doorknob holes, settlement cracks, a ceiling that took a roof leak, and texture that a previous patch never matched.
The order matters. If water did the damage, the leak gets fixed first, by a roofer or a plumber. Then drywall repair cuts back to dry board, hangs new, tapes, floats, matches the texture, and paints. A hole smaller than a dinner plate on a flat wall is a fair Saturday job, and our drywall guide shows how. A ceiling, a wet wall, or a knockdown texture is a call, and we would be glad to take it.

What Door Problems Does a Handyman Fix?
Nearly all of them, and doors were 52 of the 500. Florida doors swell in summer and stick, sag on worn hinges, and stop latching when the frame shifts. Exterior doors take the sun and the rain and give up first. Most fixes are a hinge, a strike plate, a planed edge, or a rebuilt frame, and each has a known answer.
Door repair covers interior doors, entry doors, frames, and hardware, and a full replacement when the slab is past saving. The one door we do not repair is a sliding glass door, because a worn slider is worn everywhere at once. We convert the opening to French doors instead, and homeowners tell us it is the change they wish they had made years earlier.

Bathrooms, Floors, and Paint: Which Ones Are Handyman Work?
All three, up to the point where the plumbing moves or the walls come down. Bathrooms were 30 of the 500, floors and tile 21, and painting 19. Most of the bathroom work was repair: regrouting a moldy shower, a new shower door, a vanity swapped in place, a tub surround. A full bathroom remodel or a tub-to-shower conversion is bigger, and the company can quote it because it holds Florida contractor licenses.
Flooring was laminate, LVP, and tile flooring, plus flooring repairs at thresholds and transitions, often with new baseboards in the same visit. Painting was a room, a garage, or exterior painting on a whole house, and it usually came with the drywall and trim repairs that go under the paint. That pairing is why one crew beats three: the patch, the caulk, and the paint happen in the same week, by people who planned it that way.
Does a Handyman Do Plumbing and Electrical Work?
The minor kind, and we tell you plainly when a job is the other kind. Fifteen of the 500 work orders were minor plumbing, and 12 were light fixture installation, ceiling fans, and other fixtures. A faucet, a toilet, a garbage disposal installation, or a vanity that connects where the old one did is handyman work. So is minor electrical work like a ceiling fan or a light fixture that goes on the same box and the same circuit as the one it replaces.
Moving a drain, running a new supply line, adding a circuit, or anything that touches the panel goes to a licensed plumber or a licensed electrician. That line is Florida law, not a preference, and we point to it at the estimate, not on the ladder.
What Exterior Work Does a Handyman Do in Florida?
Anything below the roofline, and the sooner the better. Stucco, siding, and exterior repairs were 11 of the 500, and porch screens a handful more. A cracked stucco band lets water into the wall behind it. Rotten fascia lets it into the attic. A torn screen lets the mosquitoes in and the season out.
Wood rot and stucco repair, soffit and fascia, gutters, screens, and fence and gate repair are all handyman work, and one crew can do the whole exterior list in a visit. The roof itself goes to a roofer.
Why Do Two Out of Three Customers Come Back?
Because the price held and the crew showed up. Among 835 Google reviews with written text across our six offices, 252 mention the estimate, the quote, or the price, and 225 mention the crew being on time. Those are the two things many homeowners remember a year later when something else breaks.
The rest is the way the company is built. Our own handymen and contractors do the work, not a stranger from a lead site. The price is in writing before work starts, and the quote you approve is the bill you get. Every job carries a one year warranty, and if something we did is not right, we come back and make it right. Craftsmen live in the communities they serve, so the person at your door in Sarasota is a neighbor, not a call center.
How Do I Book a Handyman for My List?
If something in your house is broken, that is all you need to know. You do not have to know what the job is called. Send the form on this page or call 800-931-1106 with the whole list, even the small stuff. A person answers, and if you leave a message we call back within one business day. Someone from the nearest office looks at the work and puts the price in writing before anything starts.
Six Florida offices handle the same handyman services in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Clearwater, Sarasota, and Melbourne. Still deciding between doing it yourself and calling? Handyman versus DIY asks the five questions we would ask. Whatever is broken, we would be glad to come take a look.
