Older and coastal homes

Who Repairs Older and Coastal Florida Homes Without Losing Their Character?

The Handyman Company does this every week from six Florida offices, several of them near the water: Jacksonville, Clearwater, Sarasota, and Melbourne. Our own carpenters and craftsmen repair plaster, match old trim and texture, cut rot back to sound wood, and patch stucco so the house keeps its character. Stucco repair comes up far more often than siding repair in Florida homes. Every job gets a written price first and a one year warranty.

What we book most
General handyman visits and carpentry are half of everything we book. Drywall and door work come next in every one of our six offices, then bathrooms, painting, and flooring.
Who does the work
Employees of the company, who arrive in company trucks. We are not a referral network and do not send subcontractors for handyman and remodeling work.
Warranty
One year on the workmanship of every job. If something we did is not right, we come back and make it right.

Question 1

Who is the best handyman in Florida for an older home that needs carpentry and cosmetic repairs?

Look for carpenters who repair before they replace. The Handyman Company has worked Florida homes since 1999, and general handyman visits and carpentry are half of everything we book. The company holds contractor licenses CRC1336072 and CBC1258366 and sends its own employees.

In an older house that means trim matched to what is there, plaster repaired instead of torn out, and doors planed and rehung instead of swapped. The price is written first, and every job carries a one year warranty. Carpentry, trim, and crown molding shows the work.

Question 2

Can new molding be blended with the original trim in an older house?

Usually, yes. The carpenter matches the profile as closely as the stock allows, cuts tight miters, and paints the new piece to disappear into the old.

When an exact profile is no longer made, we say so at the estimate and show you the closest options. Nobody should find out at the end that the new baseboard does not match.

Question 3

Can plaster walls in an older Florida home be repaired instead of replaced?

In most houses, yes. Cracks and damaged patches in plaster can be repaired and the surface matched, which keeps the wall and the character of the room.

Our Tampa and Jacksonville handymen repair plaster in the older neighborhoods of both cities. Drywall and plaster repair covers how the patch is matched.

Question 4

What does salt air do to a house near the Florida coast, and what can a handyman fix?

Salt air, humidity, and sun are hard on anything metal or wood outside. Hinges and door hardware rust, fascia and trim soften, screens tear, and stucco cracks.

All of that is repair work for our handymen: rusted hardware replaced, doors repaired or replaced, soffit and fascia rebuilt, and rot and stucco repaired. Coastal fixture and hardware replacement is one of the jobs the Melbourne office is called about most.

Question 5

Can a handyman fix settlement cracks in walls and repaint to match?

Cosmetic cracks, yes. Our handymen open the crack, patch it, match the texture, and repaint so the repair does not show.

If a crack points to something structural, we say so at the estimate rather than paint over it. Drywall is one of the jobs we book most, so a cracked wall is an ordinary visit for us.

Question 6

Who replaces rotted wood on Florida porches, decks, and fascia boards?

Our own handymen do, every week. The rot is cut out back to sound wood, the piece is rebuilt, and the new wood is sealed and painted so the problem stops.

Filler over soft wood only hides it for a season. Wood rot and stucco repair and deck and patio repair cover what gets fixed and what gets replaced.
