How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take in Florida?

A full bathroom remodel in Florida is usually one to two weeks of focused work.

How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take?

One to two weeks of work for a full bathroom remodel, and often less for a smaller job. That covers a bathroom renovation taken down to the studs and rebuilt, or a tub-to-shower conversion that turns an old bathtub into a walk-in shower. A refresh, where the layout stays and the parts change, usually fits in a day to a week.

Bathrooms are on a lot of minds right now. Of 91 estimate requests pulled from our website between September 4 and October 8, 2026, bathroom repairs came up in 18. Here is how long each kind of job usually takes, and what can stretch it.

A day to a week
What stretches it
Parts arriving on different days

Tub-to-shower conversion

How long it usually takes
One to two weeks of work

How long it usually takes
One to two weeks of work
What stretches it
Tile and vanity lead times, plumbing that moves, damage found at demo

Notice the words "of work" on the big jobs. The days the handyman spends in your bathroom are one thing. Waiting on a vanity or a glass shop is another, and we plan around it before demo starts.

Can a Bathroom Be Remodeled in One Day?

Part of one can, and a whole one cannot. A shower door, a regrout, a new light, or a fan swap is a one day job for us. So is a faucet or a toilet on the drain and valve that are already there.

New shower heads, towel bars, and other small swaps fit in that day too. If you want more light over the sink, a new fixture in the same spot is an easy upgrade.

A full bathroom remodel in one day is a different promise. New tile needs a waterproof wall behind it, and grout has to set before the glass is measured.

Here is how we handle a one day list. When we come out to estimate, or when the handyman is on site, we look at your list and tell you what fits in a day. Anything left over is priced separately, in writing, before it starts. You never find out about extra work from the bill.

What Happens During a Full Bathroom Remodel?

The same steps, in the same order, every time, and the order is what keeps the job short. Here is how ours runs.

  1. 1

The estimate and the written price

Someone walks the room with you and talks through your ideas, the tile style, the vanity and countertops, and the glass. Then you get one written price for the whole project. The estimate is free. The quote you approve is the bill you get.

  2. 2

    Ordering before demo

Tile, the vanity, and the fixtures get ordered and confirmed before anything comes out of the wall. That way the room is not torn apart while a box sits in a warehouse.

  3. 3

    Demo and the walls

The old bathtub or shower, tile, and backer come out. Any wet framing or bad backer gets replaced. If demo turns up hidden damage, we show you and price the fix in writing before we go on.

  4. 4

Plumbing and wiring, only if they move

When a drain, a valve, or electrical outlets have to move, a licensed plumber or electrician does that part on our schedule. If the plumbing stays where it is, this step is skipped.

  5. 5

    Waterproofing and tile

Every wet wall gets backer board and a waterproof layer before the first tile goes up. Then the shower tile, the niche, the bathroom floor, and the grout.

  6. 6

    Fixtures, vanity, toilet, and glass

The vanity, sink, faucet, toilet, and lights go in. Custom shower glass is measured off the finished tile, so it fits the opening that is really there.

  7. 7

    Paint, caulk, and the walkthrough

Fresh paint on the bathroom walls, clean caulk lines, and a walk through the room with you. If anything is not right, we fix it before we call it done.

While the walls are open is the best time to add solid blocking for grab bars. It is easy now and a lot harder once the tile is up. Aging in place upgrades fit right into a remodel, and so does a low curb on a new shower.

What Makes a Bathroom Remodel Take Longer?

Waiting, mostly, and almost never the work itself. These are the things that add time to bathroom remodeling projects in Florida.

  • Lead times on tile, vanities, and countertops. A special order, like natural stone, can push the start date back. Picking from what is in stock keeps the start date close.
  • Custom shower glass. It is measured after the tile is in, then cut by a glass shop, so it is always the last thing installed.
  • A permit when plumbing moves. Moving a drain or a valve means a permit and an inspection, handled by the licensed plumber.
  • A slab foundation. Many Florida homes sit on concrete, so moving a drain means cutting the slab and patching it.
  • Discontinued tile. Matching an old tile for a repair can mean a hunt, or a choice to retile the whole wall.
  • Damage found at demo. Rot or wet backer behind old tile gets fixed before new tile goes over it.

None of those are surprises we spring on you. We name them at the estimate, so the start date and the finish date you hear are honest ones.

A Melbourne customer put the good version simply: "Used THC to retile our shower and Phil did an awesome job! He knocked the job out super quickly and was always very friendly and easy to communicate with." (Kara Snawder, Google review of the Melbourne office, July 13, 2021)

Is a Small Bathroom Remodel Faster Than a Master Bath?

A little, though the steps are the same. A guest bath in a small space has less floor and wall tile to set and fewer fixtures to hang. It still needs demo, a waterproof wall, tile, fixtures, and a walkthrough, in that order.

A master or primary bathroom remodel tends to add time through choices, not square feet. Large bathrooms often get a bigger shower, a bench, and custom glass, and each one adds a step. A small bathroom remodel with a plain tile and a stock vanity is often the quickest full remodel there is.

The same goes for a budget. An affordable bathroom remodel keeps the layout and swaps the parts. A mid range bathroom remodel might add a new tub or new shower tile. A luxury one often moves walls and drains.

What it will cost depends on those choices. What moves a handyman price in Florida is a short list we would be glad to walk you through. Your written estimate gives you a realistic budget before any work starts.

How Long Does a Powder Room Take?

Usually a day to a week, because there is no shower or bathtub to waterproof. A powder room update is most often a refresh. A new vanity and sink faucet, a toilet, a light, and paint cover most of the list.

It is also the bathroom guests use most, so it is a good one to finish first before a holiday visit.

Is a DIY Bathroom Remodel Quicker?

Rarely, and a stalled one is the slowest bathroom of all. A half-done project leaves a house without a functional bathroom. The hard parts are the waterproofing and the tile, and those are the parts that leak if they are rushed.

One Melbourne homeowner learned that the honest way: "When me and my husband thought we could remodel our bathroom ourselves boy were we wrong. I called the handyman company they came with a quote the next day and started a few days later." (Mary Hearns, Google review of the Melbourne office, August 27, 2021)

Painting a vanity or swapping a mirror is a fine Saturday. Anything that opens a wet wall, or moves a drain, is worth a call. If you are unsure which side your list falls on, Florida law draws a line between a handyman job and a contractor job, and our licenses cover both.

Can My Bathroom Be Done Before Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Yes, if you call soon, and we would be glad to help you get there. A full remodel started in late October or early November means a new bathroom before Thanksgiving guests arrive. A mid-November start lands before Christmas.

We can usually schedule within a week. The part that takes the longest is often deciding, so book the estimate early. It is free, and the price is written down before anything starts, so you can look at it with your family and decide without pressure.

If the bathroom only needs a few things fixed first, the bathroom repairs that come before a remodel may be all your guests ever notice.

How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take in Florida?: Common Questions

Who does the best bathroom remodels in Florida?

Start with the record. The Handyman Company holds a 4.3 star rating across more than 900 Google reviews as of October 2026. It has served Florida homes since 1999, holds contractor licenses CRC1336072 and CBC1258366, and its own handymen do the work from six offices. A full remodel is one to two weeks of work, priced in writing up front, with a one year warranty.

How long does a tub-to-shower conversion take?

One to two weeks of work, about the same as a full remodel. The tub comes out, the walls are waterproofed and tiled, and the glass is measured off the finished tile and installed last. A drain that has to move in a concrete slab can add time.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel in Florida?

When plumbing or wiring moves, yes, and the licensed plumber or electrician we bring in handles it. Your city or county decides what else needs one, and we tell you at the estimate. Florida's license rules decide who may do that part.

Why is the shower glass the last thing installed?

Because custom glass is cut to the finished opening. It is measured after the tile is set, then made by a glass shop, so measuring it early would mean glass that does not fit. Plan on the glass arriving after the tile is done.

Can you add grab bars while the bathroom is being remodeled?

Yes, and it is the best time. With the walls open, solid wood blocking goes in behind the tile, so grab bars hold now or years from now. It is far easier than opening a finished wall later.
